The Queen and Her Cat

The Queen is stately and serious. Even on her days off, she glides down her many palace staircases, in her favorite royal bathrobe, surveying all there is to be done. There is always so much to do!

Her cat is not serious. But she likes to watch the Queen being serious. It is funny to Cat.

Shake Off the Freeze

What is the best path to take when returning from a long hiatus?

Is it best to try and explain the absence, fill all the white space with words by releasing your every action and thought onto the page?

Is it best to turn a blind eye to the echoing, empty stretch that just passed online - restraining yourself from clarifying why that expanse exists, or even looking back into it - because it's gone now and we're starting fresh?

Probably some combination of Restraint/Release.

I'm shaking off some of the freeze and getting back to work - and part of that work is blogging. So, hello again.

Sweet Confluence

Today I ate the most delicious apple. I was waiting for the bus to arrive, and peckish, I grabbed one of my newly acquired Fujis from the farmer's market. So fresh - absolutely crisp, sticky-cool-juicy pleasure. I had to keep checking the time to make sure I ate every bite before the bus came. On the ride home, I wore a tacky veneer of apple juice around my lips and on the fingers of my left hand; secret badges honoring my enjoyment.

I wonder if I would have so thoroughly enjoyed my snack had I not been bored and tired at a bus stop. If I had been with good company, would I have been distracted? Maybe I should always eat fruit at bus stops. It might always make the waiting so much sweeter.

And I wonder if the family of farmers who grew those apples have been choosing the best ones to regrow for generations; how long did it take to get that apple to taste that way?

Sometimes the confluence of man and nature yields beautiful results.

Winter hibernation

It's only natural when there is unceasing grey. But the sun has lately been showing up like a tardy guest - a welcome addition, with just a touch of annoyance at its previous absence.

During the winter, I made fake shining things to make up for the absence of real shining things.
